Before the Visit
Suggestions for prior to the visit:
-Read the story to the class.
-Have the class talk about questions to ask the author on their visit.
-Have students draw a picture of their favorite part of the book.
-Create a welcome banner to be placed where the author will see it.
--Send home the Pre-order forms. Checks made out to Flipside Stories. Collect the money and pre-order forms. Send the quanity and personalizations to Amber Housey, 3475 Dorothea Ct., Troy, MI 48084 or scan to [email protected] . One check payable to Flip Side Stories for the visit due at the time of the visit. Amber will bring extra books for the few who decide to buy last minute. She will sign the books during her visit.
-Create a display in the school library or lobby. Hang up posters provided by Amber.
-Contact your local newspaper about the author/illustrator visit and place a
blurb in your school newsletter publicizing the visit.

Day of the Visit
Suggestions for the Day of the Visit:
-Choose reliable students to be ambassadors of the school to show the author around.
-Have a student(s) introduce the author.
-Have any props (i.e. projector, easel, arts and crafts material, microphone, etc.) ready for the author/illustrator.
-Have a question and answer time where the author/illustrator will call on students or choose a question from a hat that the students have prepared in advance.
-If the author is staying through lunch, plan a meet the author lunch for the staff. Let the author know ahead of
time so they can plan accordingly.
-Don't forget your camera. Take pictures of the presentation and the children interacting with the author.
